Rohit Group Hosts First Annual Safety Week

Rohit Group of Companies is committed to putting safety first. We also believe in applying our innovative approach to everything we do and safety is no exception. The Rohit team spent the week of May 25-31, 2019 celebrating safety on the work site and in the workplace with its First Annual Safety Week. The week-long event consisted of safety education, training, discussion, and of course food, fun and prizes!

Rohit kicked off the week by hosting free Certified Fall Protection Training sessions for staff and trades in both Edmonton and Calgary on Saturday, May 25th. Once Monday arrived, it was back on the worksites leading group safety meetings over breakfasts, coffees and lunches. Our theme for the week was Safe By Choice, Not By Chance so we encouraged our staff and partners to reflect on why they choose to work safe and post it to our Safety Week board. And in the Rohit spirit of rewarding positive and safe behaviour, there were prizes for the participants.

On Monday afternoon we hosted our semi-annual trade meeting where we discuss our business outlooks with our trade partners. To add value and promote robust safety programs, we partnered with the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA) to also offer an information session on COR certification and specifically the SECOR program for small businesses.

Tuesday saw our Office Safety Committee host an office safety meeting in our lobby. This meeting offered tips for parking lot safety that can be applied both in and outside the workplace.

We wrapped up the week with lunchtime BBQs in both Edmonton and Calgary where we presented our quarterly Caught Working Safe winners. Caught Working Safe is an innovative program designed to reward safety in the workplace. Those “caught” going above and beyond the minimum requirements for safety on our job sites are presented with an entry into a quarterly draw for $2,000 cash. We’ve created an entire campaign around the program and share it with any other companies in our industry that want to use it.

“A big part of safety is education,” said Mike Smith, Senior Safety Advisor with Rohit Group, “our goal is to provide everyone with knowledge and awareness so they can make safer choices every day.”

Our final event in Edmonton also featured some extra fun – members of the Rohit team agreed to get soaked in the dunk tank by our trade partners. We collected for charity and with a match from Rohit Group, we were able to make a $500 donation to the Children’s Autism Services of Edmonton. We were inspired by a small special guest who thoroughly enjoyed the dunk tank experience. After all, family is the number one reason we choose to work safe.
