Second Rohit apartment development in Wateridge Village will add 200 new rental homes, with completion expected in Spring 2028

Ottawa, ON: Rohit has officially broken ground on The Avro at Wateridge Village, marking the company’s second of three apartment developments planned within the Ottawa community.

The Avro follows Astra Block, which is already under development and will bring 89 rental homes to Wateridge Village, with completion expected in Summer 2027. The Avro will add another 200 apartments, with completion expected in Spring 2028. Across these two developments, and a third still to come, Rohit will deliver more than 375 apartments within Wateridge Village.

Wateridge Village was originally master planned by Canada Lands Company and is now being advanced by Build Canada Homes. Rohit is proud to contribute to the vision for the community by delivering purpose-built rental housing in one of Ottawa’s growing urban residential areas.

“The Avro is an important milestone for Rohit in Ottawa,” said Chris MacKinnon, Vice President, Rohit Homes Ottawa. “Together with Astra Block and our third development to come, this project reflects our long-term commitment to the city and to delivering rental housing at meaningful scale.”

The groundbreaking took place alongside Rohit’s construction management partner, Buttcon, whose team is supporting the delivery of The Avro through the construction phase.

The names Astra Block and The Avro also reflect the history of the surrounding area. Located near the Canada Aviation and Space Museum and the former Rockcliffe airfield lands, Wateridge Village has a strong connection to Canada’s aviation legacy. Astra references “ad astra,” meaning “to the stars,” while The Avro is named after A.V. Roe Canada Ltd., the Canadian aircraft manufacturer behind the Avro Arrow.

The Avro represents another step in Rohit’s continued growth in Ottawa. With a broader development pipeline expected to deliver more than 900 rental apartments across the city by 2029, Rohit continues to expand its rental housing portfolio while building on nearly four decades of experience in land development, home building, residential rentals, commercial real estate, and infrastructure.

For Rohit, breaking ground on The Avro is about more than starting construction. It is about building momentum in Ottawa, supporting the growth of Wateridge Village, and contributing to the housing supply the city needs.
