Neal Gupta Award

Rohit Group of Companies’ VP, Krishna Gupta, was honoured to give Proscovia Mugaba the Neal Gupta Award in Pediatric Cardiology June 2014 after being selected by the Gupta family. This educational scholarship has been in place with the University of Alberta since 2005 in which the Gupta family sits in the selection committee that reviews the applications and determines the recipient each year. Almost three decades ago, Radhe and Krishna Gupta welcomed their first child into the world; a beautiful and healthy boy they named Neal. The new family’s joy was cut short however when less than a month later, they had lost their infant son to an unforeseen heart condition. Through their grief, the Gupta family saw an opportunity to spare other families the same pain. In his memory, Radhe and Krisha and their two children Rohit and Noopur, have established the Neal Gupta Award in Pediatric Cardiology to assist those physicians wishing to pursue this specialty field.

Homeward Trust

In support of homelessness in Edmonton we opened up the opportunity for employees to participate in a walk/run to raise awareness. We had employees and some of their family members come out and participate. There were over 200 attendees in total and over $50, 000 was raised in combined efforts.  Rohit Group was a Bronze Sponsor at this event.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity is celebrating 24 years in the capital region and Rohit Communities is looking forward to another rewarding partnership. Last year Rohit supported the annual Habitat for Humanity golf tournament in order to raise awareness around giving a “hand up to hard working families in need”.  In 2012, Rohit donated an apartment condominium from its Infusion development in Ambleside, providing a meaningful opportunity for a mother and her son. For the year of 2011 another apartment condominium unit was donated. This is just another step to building a relationship that will continue to improve the communities Rohit is involved in and the lives of those within them.

The Little Warriors

This is an initiative that we are very proud to have been a part of in 2014. The Little Warriors is a charity dedicated to supporting children that have been sexually abused. The charity built a treatment centre called the “Be Brave Ranch” on an acreage property. Children who have been abused get to live for a few weeks in this safe haven and receive counselling and protection. They also get to play, have fun, and build relationships with each other and the caretaker staff. At the “Be Brave Ranch” some facilities on the property needed to refurbished including a main building (similar to a small school), housing, skating rink, playground, and landscaping. Rohit Group donated over $10,000 to the charity. In addition to the donation our staff members also constructed a huge playhouse for the children with four different themed rooms in it (dress up, kitchen, rock climbing, and camping), re-painted the boards of the ice rink, pulled weeds, and helped with landscaping. This was most definitely a memorable experience for all staff members!

WIN House

In support of the WIN House, Rohit Group hosted a “Baskets of Hope” event where women from all over the city, including Rohit staff, came together to create beautiful gift baskets for the women who are staying at one of the WIN House shelters. Ladies were encouraged to bring 12+ items to be placed in the basket. Items provided include: robes, blankets, slippers, candles, gift cards, chocolates, makeup, bubble bath, books, etc. There was also a painting created by a local artist that was auctioned at the event with all the money raised going straight to the charity. Together, the Rohit Group staff & Edmonton community created over 80 huge baskets to give to the women as Christmas gifts. It was a beautiful event of women supporting other women in the community. Rohit Group also sponsored the WIN House Golf Tournament which raised money for the WIN House Women’s Shelter. Rohit employees both volunteered at the event and participated in the tournament. We look forward to continuing our support for the WIN House.

Christmas for Families

Each year since 2004, the staff of Rohit Group of Companies come together to help make Christmas magical for deserving families in the Edmonton area.  Throughout the year, the staff get really creative and will hosts various social events incorporating fundraising initiatives to ensure that there will be enough to provide families with the best Christmas possible. The company matches every dollar raised through the staff’s creative fundraising and the Rohit team continues to provide Christmas presents and food for many families throughout the years. The staff volunteers their time to ensure presents are bought and wrapped, food and household items are delivered on time, and the fundraising to begin again for the next year. In 2014, our Rohit team supported the following charities during the Christmas season:

  1. Edmonton Food Bank – We have done various employee food drives throughout the year & around the Christmas Season.
  2. Mustard Seed – Our staff filled 25 backpacks full of blankets, bus tickets, coffee gift cards, toilet paper, toothpaste, soap, toothbrushes and holders, candles, matches, gloves, toque, scarf, socks, hand and foot warmers, and delivered them to the Mustard Seed to help provide necessary items for Edmonton’s homeless during the winter months.
  3. Youth Empowerment and Support Services (YESS) – The same backpacks that were made for the Mustard Seed charity above were also made for YESS. We also sent them 25 stuffed backpacks to help Edmonton’s homeless youth during the cold winter months.
  4. Santa’s Anonymous – Employees used funds from the Christmas Charities Fund as well as their own to buy Christmas gifts for kids in the Edmonton community.
  5. The JCI Holiday Hamper Program – This was an exciting new charity initiative for staff this year! Rohit Group sponsored 7 large families (56 people) for a Christmas dinner and presents for every family member. Each family had 8 members, many with 1 single mom and 7 children. Our team provided each family with two large overstuffed Rubbermaid containers of food for each family. Then once all the food was gathered and presents were wrapped, employees actually delivered the hampers to their families in person.
