Intermediate Accountant

Reporting to the Operations Controller, the Intermediate Accountant is responsible for providing assistance with cycle job cost accounting and timely and accurate financial reporting to monitor the performance of Rohit Group’s various divisions.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates and processes various aspects of Rohit Group’s operational accounting including but not limited to, intercompany transactions, project soft-cost allocations, cost accruals, holdback monitoring, review of work-in-progress construction activity transactions and closing transaction activities.
  • Coordinate with the Divisional Accountants and Operations Controller to ensure that a complete and accurate review of all projects is completed monthly, quarterly and annually.
  • Assist in the development of processes and procedures to ensure that reporting systems accurately report the results of a division in a timely manner.
  • Develop strong working relationships with Procurement Coordinators, Accounts Payable and Project Managers in order to facilitate timely and accurate project cost reporting.
  • Specific duties in each of Rohit Group’s divisions will be as follows:
    • Rohit Communities:
      • Tracking of holdback & related collections
      • A/P accrual
      • Monthly recurring journal entries
      • Review coding of Visa statements, expense reports, cheque requests
      • Assist with unit analysis
      • Cost review
      • Assist with upload of project budgets in Newstar
    • Rohit Land Development
      • Review of Statement of Adjustments for lot closings
      • Review and process property taxes for payments
      • Upload and revise projects budget in Newstar
      • A/P accrual
      • Review A/P coding and check actual cost vs. budget before processing
      • Perform reconciliation of lot receivables and G/L for lot deposits and damage deposits
      • Calculate and invoice builders’ interest at month end
    • Rohit Commercial
      • Update monthly financial statements for property management
      • Update project review spreadsheets for buildings under construction
      • A/P accrual
      • Review A/P coding
      • Assist with upload of project budgets in Newstar
      • Preparation of operating cost adjusting entries and backup to tenant invoices

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong Excel skills
  • Critical thinking
  • Ability to multitask
  • Organized
  • Diploma or degree in accounting/finance
  • Has obtained or is working towards a professional accounting designation
  • 1 – 2 years’ experience in an operational accounting role
  • Experience in the residential construction industry is an asset
